Anna from Eco Mates generously gifted me some of her Wool Dryer Balls to review and I have to say I’m super impressed. I try not to use my dryer too often and only use it for sheets and towels in winter but I love the idea of further reducing my dryer usage by cutting down the drying time. They are made from 100% pure wool and reduce drying time by breaking up the washing and letting the air actually get to all the material. I’m sure I’m not the only one who pulls out sheets that feel dry but it turns out they’ve balled up and are still very wet in the middle. Anna has found that these reduce the drying time by 25-30% and I definitely agree, my towels dried in less than an hour and would normally take a couple of hours. I thought it would be quite loud and the balls would bang around in the machine, but it didn’t make any difference to the noise.
Another awesome thing about these dryer balls is you can add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil to them to lightly scent your washing. I don’t use fabric softener at all any more as I really believe it’s not needed and doesn’t contribute to the ‘softness’ of clothes, all it did for me was scent my washing, so if you want a better alternative then definitely use these and add some essential oil. These dryer balls actually will make your washing softer and as an added bonus they also remove excess lint.
One thing I’m really excited about is using them while drying my cloth pads (which are in the mail on their way to me as I type), my dryer has an airing function which will be perfect for drying my cloth pads, add these dryer balls and my cloth pads should be dry very quickly. This is super important as the longer material is wet the more likely it is for mould to start growing, which is not something you want in your cloth pads, that’s for sure! This would also apply to cloth nappies, if you use cloth nappies and struggle to get them dry quickly this would be a great option for you. These dryer balls should last for years and once they’re done you can put them in your compost as they are biodegradable!
The beautiful Anna also included a pack for me to give away! So if you’d like to get your hands on a pack of 6 wool dryer balls valued at $34.85, just comment below before the 16th of August and I’ll pick a random winner. Ball related puns welcome!
