Toxin Free Gift Giving

I felt super guilty this week, my post about going waste free was just before my birthday and in it I harped on about not needing or wanting anything, so I put a lot of pressure on my family to get me gifts that I would like (sorry guys!) Luckily they rose to the occasion and I got some beautiful things. My Mum bought me a witch hazel tree and an apple tree which I’m super excited about! My sister got me some things I can use to make my skin care and potions in (made out of recycled glass too which is awesome), my sister in law got me a candle I can actually use made with non GMO...

How To Upcycle Your Filing Cabinet

I learnt recently about volatile organic compounds (VOCs), they are toxins commonly used in paint which evaporate while drying causing that strong paint smell. Even when that paint smell disappears they can still be released into the air of your home for many years. VOC’s have been known to cause respiratory problems as well as cognitive and developmental health problems. According to the World Health Organisation professional painters have a 20% greater risk of developing cancer. Yikes! Is anyone else cringing at their walls which were painted in the last couple of years!? Thankfully there are some awesome companies doing the right thing and making VOC free paint. I was gifted some VOC free paint from the lovely Sharon at i Restore...

Wooly Mates Dryer Balls - Review & Giveaway

Anna from Eco Mates generously gifted me some of her Wool Dryer Balls to review and I have to say I’m super impressed. I try not to use my dryer too often and only use it for sheets and towels in winter but I love the idea of further reducing my dryer usage by cutting down the drying time. They are made from 100% pure wool and reduce drying time by breaking up the washing and letting the air actually get to all the material. I’m sure I’m not the only one who pulls out sheets that feel dry but it turns out they’ve balled up and are still very wet in the middle. Anna has found that these reduce the drying time...

Soapberries (soap nuts) - Review

I am so in love with my soapberries!!!! Soapberries (also called soap nuts) are shells from nuts with a waxy coating that foam up when mixed with water. To use for washing clothes you just put 5 shells into a small cloth bag (which comes with them) then chuck it in the washing machine with your clothes. They're very effective because of their natural antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. They last 5 washes and then go in the compost bin, how cool is that! I’ve been using them for a few weeks now and I love them so much! After the first load of washing I did, I took them out and smelt them, they have a really interesting smell, my husband...

Kibi Raw Minerals - Review

I recently tried Kibi Raw Mineral makeup and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the coverage of this foundation. I suffer from a bit of chacne (chin acne) and this mineral foundation covered it nicely without being heavy. I’m English and have what you might call a porcelain complexion so I used the #2 warm ivory, I also used the bronzer and peach blush. The great thing about Kibi is you can get sample pots at a very reasonable price, I got the #1 & #2 foundation, bronzer and peach blush all delivered for $44. I was expecting really tiny pots but I’ve used it a few times and have more than half left. I love the...
