How To Survive A Cold - The Low Tox Way

This time last month I was in the UK, it was beautiful and warm, clear blue skies and super sunny, now I'm back in Melbourne and it's not any of those things, it's freezing! The plane was awful as well, I think half the passengers had the plague they were coughing so much, so not surprisingly I got a terrible cold after I got home, it's the worst one I've had in years but I'm happy to say that I'm feeling much better now!  So having just gotten over a terrible cold I thought I'd share my low tox cold survival guide. 1. A bath with mineral salts and/or bentonite clay is your friend, the clay draws out toxins and...

How to Avoid Greenwashing

I’ll be honest, I don’t have the best filter. I’m sure there’s been many times when my husband has been sitting next to me at parties cringing at my ‘say it how it is’ outbursts. I absolutely don’t mean to offend, I just don’t like beating around the bush and on that same train of thought I don’t like speaking behind someone’s back. Having said all that I’m probably not a great person to invite to a ‘selling’ party. Even those companies like Arbonne and Jamberry, I don’t believe they are as non-toxic as they claim and I say it. Recently I was invited to an online Jamberry party and the first thing I did was ask ‘do these contain...

My Simple Guide to Composting

I was a bit hesitant to start  composting, I’m not great in the garden and I didn’t want anything too hard to maintain. I also didn’t want to invest a lot of money into it as I really wasn’t sure if I’d keep it up. So I went down to Bunnings and got myself pretty much the most basic compost bin you can get, picked the perfect spot for it in the garden and got started by filling it up with food scraps and garden waste, and I couldn’t be happier that I did because it’s really easy and it’s halved the amount of rubbish we send to landfill. So this is my simple composting guide for people who don’t want to invest lots of time...

My Guide To A Toxin Free Laundry

Many laundry products contain harmful toxins such as benzyl acetate, which is linked to pancreatic cancer, benzyl alcohol, which irritates the respiratory tract, chloroform which is a neurotoxin and a carcinogen, and then there’s the dreaded fake fragrances and phthalates which disrupt hormones. Um no thanks! We’re supposed to be cleaning our clothes not making them worse! I can’t stand the smell of the cleaning isle at the supermarket, even before I started this low tox journey it would give me an instant headache, and now I know it’s all the fake fragrances that cause it. How did we get so convinced that we needed harsh chemicals to clean everything? We absolutely don’t need these weird bright blue liquids and...

My Guide to Toxin Free Hair Care

I’m not going to harp on again about the nasties in most conventional hair care products, you can read my previous post on SLS and SLES here, this post is about moving forward with your toxin free life and understanding just how easy it is to switch to natural hair care products. My hair is super thick, well on its way to being 100% grey and quite curly, but my sister, who has pretty much the total opposite hair to me, uses a lot of the same products and has great results with them too so they’re suitable for most people.   Shampoo, I wash my hair twice a week with Acure Repairing shampoo and conditioner. I get it in the huge...
