I LOVE the brands I'm working with, I've designed this 'meet the maker' series to introduce you to these brands so you can get to know them as well as I do. This week I'm introducing you to Liz from Sal Remedia.
HOW DID YOUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS JOURNEY BEGIN?
My journey began when the symptoms of my pregnancy became too much to bear, not just physically but mentally as well. I was constantly in and out of maternity checking my blood pressure as I was experiencing common signs of pre-eclampsia. Luckily it never developed that far but the pain and discomfort was there from the second trimester up until my daughters birth. My weight was gaining at a rapid 2kg each week. I had fluid retention, excessive swelling, dizziness, migraines and loads of cramps! And a friend of mine brought over a pack of Epsom salts, and I was hooked. I couldn't believe how well it not just reduced my swelling to a more comfortable level, but I felt mentally stronger and happier. For the last trimester I researched specific blends, trialled what helped me further feel relaxed and in a more positive mind frame.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR COMPANY?
Sal Remedia was created on the need to make the knowledge I had gathered and specialised products more widely available to benefit other mums and women.
WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER BRANDS?
Sal Remedia has only in the last twelve months taken on the strong focus of self care because of the trials of my own post natal depression. Although never diagnosed, I know I struggled with the changes motherhood has. This is something that sets us a part, as you are dealing with a mother who understands the struggles and stress of having a child dependant on you, as well as working and having a VERY busy schedule. Our focus on mums and womens wellbeing is what sets us apart- we are not just a bath and body brand.
TELL US ABOUT THE INGREIDEINTS USED IN YOUR FORMULAS
Of course we all know that natural ingredients are important for their lack of nasty chemicals and therefore natural medicinal purposes. But to be totally real, we wouldn't use synthetic ingredients simply because I can't read the scientific names, much less know what they are good for, safe with etc.
We are proud to say we know how to pronounce each of the ingredients we use, and we use them confidently in specialised formulas to enjoy in specific or general circumstances. Natural is our only option.
BEING UP AGAINT MAINSTEREAM BRANDS WITH SEEMILGLY ENDLESS MARKETING BUDGETS IS TOUGH, WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO KEEP GOING?
It is super hard some days! But not very often due to the larger, more mainstream brands. As someone without a fierce competitive nature I don't buy too much into what other brands are doing, I'm more focused on where I am driving Sal Remedia. But motivation does lack some days, and the honest answer is just keep going. Whether the list is small or long, theres only one way to get through it.
My word of inspiration for this month is FOCUS. It is a daily challenge but the motivation of knowing I am doing something I love is is so satisfying.
WHERE ARE YOUR PRODUCTS MADE?
Right here in Parkes, NSW. In my kitchen and by hand! No chance of these babies being made overseas.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR COMPANY?
We have a lot of exciting collaborations this year which will see us totally pampering our mums and women! I'm seeing a gradual shift in a few of our blends too, partly to keep up with trends but mainly to really dive further into helping women. It's going to be an exciting few months for sure!
YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO RELAX:
Usually a hot bath, glass of wine and LOTS of candles. Lately due to the stinkin' hot weather, its a warm shower with my favourite scented product in a bath bag on the floor so I can be relaxed quickly and thoroughly.
YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO EXERCISE:
Go all out! And not very often haha! I have to be in the right frame of mind to exercise, with an intention of losing weight and toning. Unfortunately it never lasts as long as I might like because our routine changes here a lot (enters teething eighteen month old) but I do what I can, when I can.
YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD:
My favourite food joke is 'I'm on a seafood diet. I see food and I eat it' so I think that can answer the question appropriately. I love bread and butter, anything salty and sweet, and roasted pumpkin! Also swear by fresh fruit juices and smoothies, they are life!
Thanks so much Liz! Now I'm off for a long soak with Liz's amazing bath salts, healing Mama is my favourite!
I hope you have a beautiful, low tox week!
